Run” Simmons of Run DMC is currently starring as Douglas Frederick (Doug) Edwards, a Cal U student, on the hit show Grown-ish (A fictional University in the “Ish” Universe).

In 2009, he released his debut mixtape, The First Flight. The album was downloaded by over 100,000 people from Simmons’ blog. According to Simmons, five record labels expressed interest in signing him after the release of the mixtape; he chose Atlantic Records. Early in 2010, the rapper posted a video of himself Freestyling over Nas’s song “Made You Look.” Kanye West praised the video, which quickly went viral. The rapper was named one of Billbord’s “Artists to Watch 2011” and was selected to XXL’s annual Freshmen list. In early 2011, he joined a “behind the scene” group with several up and coming music artists at the time known as “B(before 20)12.” Diggy went on his first tour for BET’s 106 & park Closer to My Dreams Tour in the summer of 2011 starring Tyga, Mac Miller, Mindless Behavior, Lil Twist, Jawan Harris, and Trevante.
