In 2004, Charo found salvation during one of her husband’s sermons in Texas. Paul was delivering a message on “How to Recognize True Christianity,” and with every word he spoke, Charo felt an inner turmoil. She couldn’t help but fidget in her seat, silently grappling with her thoughts. Inwardly, she admitted that it was easy to outwardly project a pious image, dressing in modest attire and attending church, but deep down, she sensed that something was missing. During that church service, Charo even contemplated fleeing in distress, fearing that if she heard another sermon, something terrible might happen. It was as if God was revealing to her that she had become critical and had a hardened heart. Eventually, Charo mustered the courage to confide in her husband about her inner turmoil as they were driving back to their friend Ian’s place. To her surprise, Paul admitted that he, too, couldn’t definitively determine whether she was a Christian or not.
That night, upon returning home, Charo turned to the book of 1 John in the Bible. She meticulously read through each verse, and as she did, she found it to be an astonishing revelation. Overwhelmed by her emotions, Charo confessed her shortcomings to God through prayer and tears, imploring Him to save her. In that moment, God graciously opened her eyes and revealed her true self to her.
With a heart overflowing with joy, Charo was eager to share her newfound testimony with others, grateful for the profound transformation she had experienced.
