Andra Day is an American award-winning actress, songwriter, R&B and soul music singer well known for her single song “Rise Up”. She has won several awards including a Grammy Award, a Children’s and Family Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. She received the Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media for the film’s accompanying soundtrack in 2021.

Andra Day Rise Up | Career
Day began her career in music after graduating from the Sand Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts in Paradise Hills. From there, she worked in around twenty different jobs before she was noticed performing at a strip mall by Stevie Wonder’s wife. She then received a call from Stevie himself later and the two met and connected one year later.
She was introduced to a producer named Adrian Gurvitz who helped Day produce her first studio album. in 2011, Day was signed to Buskin Records under a developmental deal. From there, Day and Buskin received a record deal with Warner Bros Records after noticing Andr’s numerous covers and mashups. A few years later, her debut Cheers to the Fall was released on August 28, 2015.
The album was nominated for a Grammy in 2016 after its single Rise Up by Day gained international attention and recognition. Rise Up was even used in an advertisement for Beats by Dre and tennis player Serena Williams the same year it was released. Andra went for her first tour in 2015 and sang Rise Up at the White House and A&E’s live special called Shining A Light A Concert for Progress on Race in America.
