Born and raised in Ottawa, Chicago, Sterhl wanted to be an archeologist when he was a kid. However, his passion changed after a weather legend and icon named Harry Volkman visited Mark’s church as a keynote speaker. When he was in fifth grade, Sterhl had already decided to study weather and become and successful weatherman after meeting Harry in person.
He began his first work as a weather anchor for a local radio station based in Ottawa. After his college graduation, Sterhl was hired as a full-time weather anchor for WQCCO News based in Minneapolis. He was known for interpreting the latest weather updates happening around Minneapolis and its environs.
From there, Mark appeared as a weather anchor and reporter for WISN News in Milwaukee. He then decides to return to Chicago after Harry decides to give him his spot on FOX 32 News in his native state.
