On August 25, 2020, Kyle shot and killed two men during the unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin during the Black Lives Matter protests which happened just one mile south of where he lived in Antioch Illinois. He also participated in local police cadet programs and expressed his support on social media for the Blue Live Matter movement.
According to his attorney’s statement, Rittenhouse heard about a local business owner who wanted help in defending his car dealership business. Therefore, Rittenhouse and his friend Dominick David armed themselves with rifles and went to help the business owner. From there, five confrontations and subsequent shootings took place just shortly after there were clashes between the police officers and protesters at the Civic Center Park.
In some of the videos, Rittenhouse is seen running with a fire extinguisher to put off the fire that was started in a dumpster next to a petrol station. At the first confrontation, Rittenhouse was pursued by a group and a gunshot was fired into the sky by a third party. A man named Rosenbaum attempted to take Rittenhouse’s rifle but Kyle fired four times at Rosenbaum and he died afterward.
At a second location, Rittenhouse was kicked by a man while he a fleeing. Therefore, in a fit of rage, he fired two shots at him but he missed. A few days later, Rittenhouse was arrested and charged with multiple counts of homicide and unlawful use and possession of a firearm.
