On March 11, 2009, Winans was taken into custody on suspicion of domestic assault after allegedly punching his ex-wife in front of their children during an argument. Winans and his former spouse engaged in a “verbal altercation” on February 13 regarding “custody issues dealing with their children,” according to a court filing.
