In February 2013, Carter Evans became a Los Angeles-based correspondent for CBS News, delivering reports across all platforms of the network. With nearly two decades of journalism experience, he joined CBS News after covering significant national and international stories.

Evans gained widespread recognition for his compelling coverage in February 2013 when a police shootout occurred with Christopher Dorner, a suspected killer and former LAPD officer. As the sole reporter present during the intense manhunt in Big Bear, California, Evans captured the attention of the nation. Recently, he had been working as a freelance correspondent for CBS News.

Prior to his time at CBS News, Evans served as a business correspondent for CNN Newsource for four years. During this period, he contributed over 20 live shots daily and hosted CNN’s financial Q&A segment called “The Help Desk.” His reporting included notable events such as the 2010 BP oil spill, the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami, Hurricane Irene and the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, and he provided coverage of the “Great Recession” from the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange.

Earlier in his career, Evans reported and anchored for WNYW/WWOR-TV in New York. Additionally, he worked as a freelance correspondent for CBS Newspath, covering incidents like the California wildfires and stepping in on occasion for “CBS MoneyWatch.”

Evans relocated to Los Angeles in 2003 and spent four years reporting for KCBS/KCAL. During this time, he covered the passing and state funeral of President Ronald Reagan. He also had the opportunity to report from the red carpet for E! News and host their countdown show to the Golden Globes in 2004.
