Winans first visited Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1981 to perform on Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker’s well-liked Christian television program, The PTL Club. CeCe and her older brother BeBe were members of the broader Winans family singing ensemble, but they split off to form a duo while attending PTL after receiving excellent feedback on a duet performance of the song “Up Where We Belong,” which they had adapted for Christian audiences.
