Joseph Simmons( born Joseph Ward Simmons) is an American rapper, TV personality, producer, and DJ. Simmons is a founding member of Run-DMC, a prominent hip-hop group. Reverend Run, as he is called, is also a practicing minister. In 2005, he rose to prominence thanks to his family’s MTV reality show, Run’s House. He is better known by the stage name Run, Rev. Run or DJ Run,

Simmons began using the stage name “Rev. Run” when E. Bernard Jordan, Simmons’ spiritual tutor, ordained him as a Pentecostal priest. Jordan also gave him the “Protege of the Year Award” in 2004. Jordan’s Phantom Rolls Royce was included in a “Rolls Royce procession outside the Plaza Hotel in New York City” on the same day, symbolizing his “Prosperity Ministry.” Reverend Run or Simmons had given Jordan the new $325,000 Phantom as a “thank you” for Jordan’s mentoring help.
In September 2005, Simmons debuted as Rev. Run with a guest appearance on Liberty X’s track “Song 4 Lovers.” Bill Schacht was the music video director for that song, which was directed for Aestheticom and attained broadcast airplay chart positions of No. 2 Box UK and No. 4 MTV UK, as well as substantial rotation on 5 other music channels in the UK. His debut solo album, Distortion, was released after the song. “Mind on the Road,” Simmons’ first single from the album, is featured in EA Sports’ Madden NFL 06 video game. This song samples “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,” following in the footsteps of Run–1980s D.M.C.’s songs, which sampled Aerosmith’s smash.
In 2007, he and his son Diggy Simmons appeared on My Super Sweet 16 while attending Diddy’s son Quincy’s 16th birthday celebration. Run’s House is also produced by Diddy. Simmons was named a BMI Icon at the annual BMI Urban Awards on September 8, 2007. In 2008, Simmons and his wife Justine teamed up with Kool-Aid and KaBOOM!, a non-profit organization, to assist create playgrounds in underserved areas. Over the course of 2008, the pair assisted with the construction of twenty-four playgrounds with Kool-Aid, and they intend to raise awareness about the importance of safe play areas.
