In her quest to improve her reporting skills, Jovana also took a second job reporting for the Orange County News Channel, juggling both roles until she was hired by KNSD in San Diego.
In her first year in San Diego, Jovana won an Emmy for a story about a small village near Tijuana that was destroyed in the 1997 El Nino mudslides. Two other stories she reported were also nominated for Emmys that year. Later, she received commendations from the San Diego Press Club.
