After catching the attention of a talent agent through a tape of one of his sets, he made the move to New York City, where he initially worked the door at the now-defunct Boston Comedy Club.

His most famous narrative recounts how he earned the moniker “The Machine,” involving an inadvertent involvement with the Russian mafia during a college trip to Russia.
