Chavis went on to co-star with Jay Pharoah in the comedy White Famous, which was executive produced by Jamie Foxx. Chavis revealed that the series was his first foray into improv.  Chavis made his feature film debut in Adam DeVine’s Disney’s Magic Camp. The film’s theatrical release in 2018 was canceled, and it was later streamed on Disney+.

He also appeared on Netflix in Kevin Hart’s Guide to Black History, which debuted in 2019. Chavis also appeared in Guy Nattiv’s short film Skin. Chavis was cast opposite Jason Wiles in Sunny Daze, a film written and directed by Wiles. In 2019, Chavis was cast opposite Academy Award nominee David Oyelowo in The Water Man, Oyelowo’s feature film directorial debut. The film, which also starred Rosario Dawson and was executive produced by Oprah Winfrey, starred Chavis as the lead. Chavis made his feature film debut with the film and he credits Oyelowo with making him a better actor. Chavis was cast to star in The Boy Behind the Door, a thriller written and directed by David Charbonier and Justin Powell, in 2020.

Chavis collaborated with Ad Council on an anti-bullying campaign in October 2018. “This movement is about having the accountability to correct your own actions and be better to others,” Chavis said in 2020. Chavis models for the organization’s clothing line, which debuted in 2021. Following the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent protests, Chavis, then 12, wrote a letter to his mother about his experiences with racism in the United States, as he struggled to express his feelings verbally. People magazine published the letter on June 17, 2020.
