Marcus Scribner is a well-known American actor best known for his portrayal of the character Andre Johnson Jr. on the ABC comedy series Black-ish. Scribner first appeared on the show when he was in his early adolescence. Marcus also provides the voice of Bow in the Netflix animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.

Scribner was born in Los Angeles and raised there.  The son of Troy Scribner. He has a sibling Athena Scribner. His name, like those of his father Troy and sister Athena, is derived from Roman and Greek mythology. Scribner also has a puppy named Zeus, whom he adopted to commemorate his first professional acting job. His father is Black, as is his character on Black-ish, and his mother is biracial (Black and white). His father’s family is from Los Angeles, and his mother’s family is from England.

At a young age, the “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power” actor began acting. He landed his first role on the television series “Castle” when he was 10 years old. From there, he advanced his career, appearing in shows such as Nickelodeon’s Wendell & Vinnie, Fox’s New Girl, and TBS’ Wedding Band. Marcus landed a starring role as Andre Johnson Jr., the teenage son and second child of Andre Johnson Sr. (played by Anthony Anderson) and Rainbow Johnson, on the then-new ABC sitcom “Black-ish” in 2014. (played by Tracee Ellis Ross). Jenifer Lewis (grandmother), Laurence Fishbourne (grandfather), Yara Shahidi (elder sister), Miles Brown (younger brother), and Marsai Martin also appear on the show (younger sister). Marcus was 14 years old when the series began and 13 years old when he auditioned for the role and actually beat Anthony Anderson’s real-life son to get the character. After the first season aired, he received an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy for his portrayal of Junior. He has since maintained his role on the series as he transitions from a teenager into a young adult.

Scribner has also had other acting roles, including voicing Buck in Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur (2015). He also began voicing Smudge, a recurring character on the animated series “Home: Adventures with Tip & Oh.” Marcus was cast as the main character in the thriller “Confessional” in 2018. He also appeared as Andre Johnson Jr. in the first “Black-ish” spin-off, “Grown-ish,” alongside his on-screen elder sister Yara Shahidi, and in the second spin-off, “Mixed-ish,” both as Andre Johnson Jr. In 2018, he voiced Bow, She-Ra and Glimmer’s best friend, in the Netflix animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Marcus wrote an article for Mic in 2017 calling for more environmental action. and help defend the Environmental Protection Agency. He wrote passionately about environmental issues affecting while acknowledging that something had been done to better society though more work needed to be undertaken.
