Mark Dixon WFSB

Mark is an Emmy nominated Emmy award-winning weather anchor currently serving as the chief meteorologist at WFSB-TV based in Hartford, Connecticut. He joined WFSB in July 2003 after working as a meteorologist for two years at KARK 4, in Little Rock, Arkansas. A member of the American Meteorological Society, Mark has been recognized by his peers with the prestigious AMS Seal of Approval.

Mark’s interest in weather began at an early age. He often jokes that he chose his major when he was just 8 years old, after touring a television station in his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, as a Cub Scout. Growing up in the heart of Tornado Alley only fueled his fascination. As a high school junior, Mark interned at KJRH-TV, and when it was time for college, he attended the University of Oklahoma, known for its top meteorology program and excellence in severe weather research and forecasting.

After graduation, Mark secured his first full-time job in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he earned an Associated Press award for “Best Weather Segment” for a summer heat demonstration. He played a key role in the creation and development of his station’s local WeatherNet. Working with Bruce DePrest, a veteran forecaster of New England weather for over 40 years, helped Mark refine his skills in predicting winter storms. Having lived in Connecticut for nearly two decades, Mark has truly made the Nutmeg State his home.

Beyond his meteorologist duties, Mark has been actively involved with the Connecticut Science Center since its early days when it was just a parking lot in Hartford. He also hosted WFSB’s “Cool Schools” franchise for four years, a platform that allowed him to highlight the fun and unique activities happening in schools across the state.
