Marvin Sapp is an American gospel music singer-songwriter who rose to prominence in the 1990s as a member of the group Commissioned before embarking on a record-breaking solo career. Sapp is also the founder and former senior pastor of Grand Rapids, Michigan’s Lighthouse Full Life Center Church. In 1995, he released Perfect Peace. He was installed as senior pastor of The Chosen Vessel in Fort Worth, Texas, on November 17, 2019.

Sapp played the Scarecrow in the 1995 Apollo production of The Wiz. In 1996, he decided to pursue a career as a contemporary gospel solo singer, and he has since released seven albums. After the release of “Never Would Have Made It” from the album Thirsty in 2007, Sapp gained crossover stardom. It reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list in the United States, as well as No. 82 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Gospel Songs chart.
Thirsty debuted at No. 28 on the Billboard 200, No. 4 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and No. 1 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums in the United States.
