Gubler’s original watercolor “Mushface” was sold on eBay for $10,100. Gubler donated the proceeds to Las Vegas’ Smith Center for the Performing Arts.
Rumple Buttercup: A Story of Bananas, Belonging, and Being Yourself, written and illustrated by Gubler, was published on April 2, 2019. It is marketed as a children’s book, but Gubler claims it is appropriate for all ages “Just to let anyone who has ever felt like they didn’t quite fit in know that they are not alone… My goal in writing the book was to give the world a 136-page hug.” “Every single word, every single illustration, including the bar code and the lengthy copyright page,” he wrote or drew in the book. The book quickly rose to the top of the New York Times Best Seller list in its category.
