Maher worked as a news anchor for WJRT-TV in Michigan from 1995 to 1997, covering breaking news such as the Oklahoma City bombing and the Decker farm raid. From 1997 until 2002, she worked as a Chicago-based correspondent for CBS Newspath, covering issues including as Bill Clinton’s impeachment, the Kosovo crisis, and the liberation of US servicemen in Albania.
Maher began her career at CBS News as a correspondent from 1999 to 2002. For CBS Evening News, she covered the War on Terror, the Taliban’s demise in Afghanistan, the Nairobi hotel attack in 2002, the Enron scandal, and natural disasters in the United States. Maher writes about Scott Peterson’s murder trial and a 2003 Chicago porch collapse that killed 13 people. In 2003, Maher was appointed to host 48 Hours Mystery, a CBS true-crime documentary and news show.
