Lil Wayne is widely recognized as one of the most influential hip-hop artists of his generation and is frequently mentioned among the greatest rappers of all time. He was signed to Cash Money Records by American rapper Birdman in 1995, making him the youngest member of the label at just eleven years old. Over the years, he became the flagship artist for Cash Money Records, before ending his association with the label in June 2018.

Initially, in 1994, he was paired with labelmate B.G. to form a duo, releasing an album titled True Story in July of that year. However, Carter, then known as Baby D, appeared on only three tracks. In 1997, Carter and B.G. joined forces with fellow Cash Money labelmates Juvenile and Turk to form the Southern hip-hop group Hot Boys. The Hot Boys achieved mainstream success with their second album, Guerrilla Warfare (1999), and the hit single “Bling Bling.” Although the group disbanded after the album due to members leaving the label, they released one more album, Let ‘Em Burn, in 2003.
