He was part of the CBS News Sunday Morning team that won the 2020 News Emmy Award for “Outstanding News Special” for “A Sunday Morning In Florence,” a special broadcast from Florence, Italy.  Doane, who lives in Rome, Italy, contributed three separate pieces to the Emmy-winning broadcast. Doane began his career as a field producer at WNYW, New York City’s Fox affiliate. The high-school TV network Channel One News then promoted him to news anchor, sending him abroad to cover stories in San Salvador, Indonesia, Iran, Afghanistan, and Sudan. CNN hired Doane as a special video news correspondent for South Asia, including India, in April 2006. He worked for CNN in New Delhi until June 2007.
Doane joined CBS News as a national correspondent covering domestic issues in August 2007. In 2008, he started reporting a segment called “The Other America” about the effects of the economic downturn on individuals and families. Doane is also a CBS News Sunday Morning correspondent. Doane was based in Beijing, China, from April 2013 to March 2016, covering Asian events for CBS News. He has been based in Rome since April 2016, covering Europe, Africa, and the Middle East for CBS News. Doane married Andrea Pastorelli in a same-sex civil ceremony at the Villa Rosa Badia Di Campoleone in Arezzo, Italy on September 6, 2014.
