Before WPIX, Shirley was a morning anchor at NBC Connecticut in Hartford. One of her most challenging assignments was covering the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012. She stayed on the anchor desk for hours, providing continuous coverage of one of the nation’s worst mass shootings. This coverage earned the station a Peabody Award.
Shirley began her television news career at NBC’s The TODAY Show, where she had the opportunity to travel and cover major national stories, including the September 11 attacks and two Olympic Games. Starting as an intern, she worked her way up to producer before transitioning to a successful on-air career. Her anchoring and reporting have garnered an Associated Press Award and four Emmy nominations.
Her first job in local news was at WWLP-TV22 in Springfield, Mass., where she served as the weekend anchor and investigative reporter. She then moved to WFXT-FOX25 in Boston, handling both reporting and fill-in anchoring duties.
Shirley enjoys the varied nature of reporting, whether she’s on the frontlines of breaking news or filing an in-depth, eye-opening story. After spending over a decade at three New England broadcast outlets, she is delighted to once again call NYC home.
