Stephen Colbert is an American stand-up comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actor, and television host. He hosted the satirical Comedy Central show The Colbert Report from 2005 to 2014, and he began hosting the CBS talk show The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in September 2015.

He left Second City in 1995 and relocated to New York to collaborate with Sedaris and Dinello on the television comedy show ‘Exit 57.’ Despite receiving positive reviews, the series only lasted 12 episodes. In 1996, he appeared as a cast member and writer on ‘The Dana Carvey Show,’ alongside Steve Carell, Robert Smigel, and Dina Stamatopoulos, but the series was canceled due to the satire. Only one of his humorous correspondent segments was aired while working for ‘Good Morning America,’ but he was hired by Madeline Smithberg.

He collaborated with Sedaris and Dinello on a new Comedy Central comedy series called Strangers with Candy. It was a cult show that aired 32 episodes between 1999 and 2000. In 2003, he co-wrote a satirical novel, Wigfield: The Can Do Town That Just May Not, with Sedaris and Dinero, about a small town threatened by the impending destruction of a dam. As the featured entertainer at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in 2006, his satire targeted President Bush and the media. He stunned the audience to silence, but he went on to become an internet and media sensation. He ran for the Democratic ticket in South Carolina in 2007, but his application was denied because he was not a serious candidate, so he dropped out.
