Suzanne Malveaux is an American broadcast journalist and news anchor who served as a Washington, D.C., correspondent for CNN until 2023. Throughout her tenure at CNN, she co-anchored programs such as The Newsroom and The Situation Room. Before joining CNN, Malveaux worked as a correspondent for WRC-TV in Washington, D.C., from 1996 to 1999 and also held roles as a news anchor and correspondent for NBC News. She left CNN in January 2023 to focus on her family.
Malveaux began her television career as a general assignment reporter at New England Cable News in Boston from 1992 to 1996. She then moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked at NBC affiliate WRC-TV, covering local and crime news. In 1999, Meet the Press host Tim Russert recruited her to NBC News, where she spent three years covering national stories as a Pentagon correspondent and later in Chicago. Her reporting included major events such as Bill Clinton’s impeachment, the Elián González case, the Kosovo War, the 2000 presidential election, the 9/11 attacks, and the 2001 war in Afghanistan.
In 2007, Malveaux moderated the 31st annual convention of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), an organization in which she has been actively involved. During the 2008 presidential election, she anchored a 90-minute documentary on Barack Obama as part of a CNN series on the candidates. She also served as a panelist for the Democratic presidential primary debate in South Carolina, co-hosted by CNN and the Congressional Black Caucus. Additionally, she played a key role in CNN’s coverage of the 2004 and 2006 elections, with the latter earning an Emmy Award.
Beyond her White House reporting, Malveaux became the primary substitute anchor for The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer and was named the dayside anchor of CNN Newsroom in 2011. In 2012, she hosted The Root 100, an eight-part series on Aspire.
