He hosted several shows for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and finished second in the fourth season of Strictly Come Dancing South Africa in 2008. He hosted the late-night talk show Tonight with Trevor Noah, which he created and aired on M-Net and DStv from 2010 to 2011. He began his comedy career while out with his cousin and a friend in a South African bar. They were both inebriated when they began heckling a comedian. When the comedian challenged them to perform on stage, they chose Trevor. He went on stage to avoid looking like a “scaredy cat” and discovered that people laughed when he spoke.

Following his announcement of taking over The Daily Show, he referred to Jon Stewart as a major influence (1996). Because the original version contained some profanity, he wrote an adapted version that did not contain any profanity so that children could read it.
