Since 2006, he has been performing as a bassist with the band Van Halen. He has also previously contributed to the heavy metal band Tremonti. Van began his career as a drummer. He would often watch his father practice and would occasionally try to play his uncle Alex’s drum kit, prompting the latter to give him a few lessons.
