After graduating magna cum laude from Howard University, A.J. landed her first job working as a production assistant at ESPN, where she produced and edited montages, teases, and highlights for SportsCenter and various NBA studio shows. Later, she transitioned from behind the scenes to in front of the camera at WMBF News in Myrtle Beach, SC. As a multimedia journalist and anchor, she covered one of the biggest wildfires in South Carolina history and produced an in-depth feature on the NAACP’s boycott of the Confederate flag. On weekends, she also served as a fill-in sports anchor, assisting with Friday Night Lights high school football coverage.

Her next stop was WSYX in Columbus, OH, where she served as a reporter and fill-in morning anchor. While there, she covered a wide range of stories, from the Senate Bill 5 protests at the Ohio Statehouse to the Zanesville animal massacre and Jim Tressel’s resignation from OSU following Tattoo Gate.

After two years in Columbus, A.J. returned home to Pittsburgh to work as a freelance reporter for WTAE-TV and the New Pittsburgh Courier newspaper.
