Amara Walker is a well-known American journalist who previously anchored CNN This Morning Weekend. With a career that spanned over a decade at CNN, she made a significant impact before announcing her departure in February 2025.
Her journey in broadcasting kicked off at KMIR-TV in Palm Springs. In 2005, she made her way to NBC-owned WTVJ in Miami, Florida, where she took on the roles of news anchor and general assignment reporter. In July 2012, she and her husband moved to Chicago, and she continued her work at Fox-owned WFLD. After leaving WFLD in December 2013, she headed to Atlanta, Georgia, to join CNN International.
From 2015 to 2020, Walker co-anchored CNN Today, a three-hour daily news show on CNN International, alongside Michael Holmes. In March 2021, she bravely shared her experiences with anti–East Asian insults on air, and in February 2022, she wrote an opinion piece addressing the violence faced by East Asian American women. On October 8, 2022, she was officially named co-anchor of New Day Weekend, which was later rebranded as CNN This Morning Weekend. After more than ten years with the network, Walker confirmed in February 2025 that she would be leaving CNN.
