Lauryn Ricketts is a Broadcast Meteorologist with StormTeam4 and WTOP 103.5FM, and she’s no stranger to the weather patterns of the Washington, D.C., area. A native of the Shenandoah Valley, specifically Winchester, Virginia, Lauryn has spent over a decade forecasting weather in and around the nation’s capital.
Lauryn’s fascination with weather began in childhood. With a passion for science, she was drawn to weather charts, cloud formations, severe storms, and even stargazing. When asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, she confidently replied, “A meteorologist,” and she’s been chasing that dream ever since.
While studying at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, Lauryn gained her first taste of broadcast meteorology, working under Chief Meteorologist John Bernier at WRIC. This experience set the stage for her dynamic career in weather forecasting.
Lauryn has since worked at WTTG in Washington, D.C., served as Chief Meteorologist at WHSV in Winchester, and contributed to the weather teams at WBFF and WMAR in Baltimore. Most recently, she was part of the large meteorology team at WJLA-ABC7 in Washington, D.C.
Her role as Chief Meteorologist at WHSV earned her national recognition for her accurate forecasts during “Snowmageddon,” the back-to-back storms of December 2009 and February 2010 that each dumped over 30 inches of snow on the Mid-Atlantic, paralyzing the region. Lauryn’s expertise extends to severe weather forecasting, covering events like Hurricane Isabel in 2003, the June 4, 2008, tornado outbreak in the Shenandoah Valley, the 2012 Derecho, and numerous winter storms and summer thunderstorms in the D.C. area.
With her extensive experience and passion for meteorology, Lauryn remains a trusted voice for weather updates in the D.C. region.

Lauryn is a former meteorologist at NBC and also contributes to 103.5 WTOP radio on weekday mornings. Since childhood, Ricketts had an interest in science and she used to tell people she wanted to become a meteorologist through her hard work, her dream came true.
Before joining Storm Team 4, she worked as chief meteorologist at WHSV in Winchester. She also served as a meteorologist at WRIC in Richmond, at WTTG and WJLA in Washington, and at WMAR and WBFF in Baltimore.
Lauryn while working at WHSV/TV3 in Winchester, she was nationally recognized for her forecasting coverage for “Snowmeggedon.” The Mid-Atlantic was paralyzed due to the December 2009 storm and the February 2010 storm that dropped over 30″ of snow on parts of the region.
