Gotter even did a good job working as the morning weather forecaster for WJXT News in Jacksonville, Florida for close to five years.

After his college graduation, he left Oklahoma and moved back to Wisconsin to work as a full-time meteorologist for WAOW news in Wausau. One year later, he took a job offer at WJXT News in Jacksonville, Florida. During his five-year tenure in Florida, Gotter was able to cover various weather reports including the strong tropical storm of Florida and provide a two-week report on a 1999 hurricane called Hurricane Floyd.
Before finally joining TMJ 4, Gotter won an Emmy award for his work as a fill-in meteorologist for the CBS Early Show while he was working for WCCO News based in Minneapolis.
