Jimmy Fortune is an American country music singer. He is famous for being a member of The Statler Brothers for 21 years. Fortune is the composer of various of their no 1 hits, “Elizabeth,” “Too Much On My Heart,” and “My Only Love.” After an audition in Nashville, Jimmy was reached by the Statler Brothers. On January 28, 1982, Jimmy performed his debut show with them, in Savannah, Georgia.

Jimmy Fortune Jr. is Jimmy’s youngest son. Sadly, he was born with spina bifida. In 2011, he suffered from bone infections in his hip and right leg. This infection has caused a lot of complications. He was later admitted back into the hospital with extremely low blood pressure.

The doctors admitted him into ICU because the infection had gotten into his bloodstream. They later did a blood transfusion which made a huge difference. The doctors, and Jimmy Jr, decided the best route was to amputate his right leg.

After an audition in Nashville, Jimmy was reached by the Statler Brothers. On January 28, 1982, Jimmy performed his debut show with them, in Savannah, Georgia. He became a member of the group permanently after DeWitt was incapable of coming back to the stage. Dewitt suffered from Crohn’s disease and hence needed to be replaced.

He was the composer of various songs that were recorded by the Statler Brothers, such as “Elizabeth”, “Too Much on My Heart”, and “My Only Love”. “Elizabeth” was a top bluegrass release for Dailey & Vincent. He contributed 21 years of his life touring, singing, and performing with the Statler Brothers. Jimmy proceeds as a solo artist, following The Statler Brothers’ retirement.

He launched his debut solo album, When One Door Closes, in 2003. On December 27, 2005, he released another album, called ”I Believe.”

Fortune followed with his third album, titled ”Feels Like Christmas”, On November 29, 2007. Later on December 8, 2009, his fourth album, ”Windows,” was delivered. On August 28, 2012, Jimmy released his fifth album, named ”Lessons.”

In 2015, Fortune released ”Hits & Hymns.” ”Hits & Hymns” climbed Top Ten on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. On April 21, 2017, Jimmy launched a new album, named ”Sings the Classics.”

On May 24, 2019, the album ”God & Country” was delivered through Gaither Music Group. The album  consisted of a new rendition of The Statler Brothers’ hit “More Than a Name on a Wall.” The recording can also be found in Cracker Barrel Old Country Store locations.

Jimmy Fortune Awards

On October 29, 2007, Jimmy and The Statler Brothers were inducted into the GMA (Gospel Music Association) Hall of Fame. They have also been enlisted into the CMA (Country Music Association) Hall of Fame on June 29, 2008. As a solo artist, Jimmy earned an induction into the Virginia Musical Hall of Fame in 2018.
