Kandi Burruss ( born Kandi Lenice Burruss ) is a well-known American singer, songwriter, television personality, actor, and businesswoman who rose to prominence in 1992 as a member of the female American vocal group Xscape. She rose to prominence as a member of the female vocal quartet Xscape in 1992. For her contributions to the TLC smash song “No Scrubs,” she earned a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song in 2000.

LaTocha Scott was a member of the Precise band. While attending Tri-Cities art secondary school in East Point, Georgia, Scott’s sister Tamika met Kandi. They began singing together and then added Tamera Coggins as a fourth member. Xscape was founded after Tameka “Tiny” Cottle was asked to listen to the females. After their important debut appearance at BET’s Teen Summit in 1992, the ladies were given recording executive Ian Burke, who later became their group manager. Xscape was quickly noticed by Jermaine Dupri, who eventually signed the group to his So So So Def Recording label. The band’s debut album, “Hummin’ Comin,” was released on October 12, 1993, in ‘Cha. In less than a year, they released their second studio album, Off the Hook.
Burruss was the first African-American woman to win the Songwriter of the Year honor. Burruss also penned the song “Tardi for the Party” for her Atlanta co-star Kim Zolciak, who is a member of the Real Housewives of Atlanta. Burruss co-wrote “No Scrubs” by TLC and “Bills, Bills, Bills” by Destiny’s Child. Kandi Koated, her second album, was released in December 2010. Ed Sheeran released his huge hit single Shape of You in 2017 with Burruss and three other songwriters co-writing credit. She was also a member of the Peach Candy duet alongside Rasheeda, an Atlanta lady rapper. DeShawn Snow was replaced by Burruss in the second season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, according to Entertainment Weekly in March 2009. Burruss formed friendships with castmates Phaedra Parks and Porsha Williams in addition to her work on A Mother’s Love, a play she and her husband wrote and produced.
