Stahl joined WHDH-TV, Boston’s original Channel 5, after graduating from high school. She worked for the channel as an on-air reporter and producer until 1971, when she joined CBS News. She attributes her job at CBS News to the Federal Communications Commission’s inclusion of women in its affirmative action mandate in 1972. She joined CBS News as a correspondent in 1974. Stahl rose to prominence as a result of her coverage of the Watergate scandal. She was new to CBS, but she was given the assignment because the story was deemed unimportant. She covered the court appearances of the men arrested for breaking into a Watergate complex building. During the governance of Presidents Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George H. W.
