Having immediately gotten familiar with everything, Dodley proceeded onward to fill in as evening drive anchor at the unbelievable WING in Dayton, and when the American hostages were taken in Iran, his demonstrable skill was seen by WSAI in Cincinnati. At WSAI he anchored and reported from the field, filling in as the go-to person for coverage of significant stories like the Air Canada crash and the Who concert misfortune.
Dodley fell under the tutelage of the late Steve Douglas, whom Dodley credits with fueling his craving to work in TV news. After leaping TV, Dodley filled in as a reporter for the Financial News Network, just as an independent essayist for Financial World Magazine. In practically no time, WNET/THIRTEEN requested Dodley to anchor from another concept report called the “Bulldog Edition.”
Dodley’s four years of work at WNET grabbed the eye of Paul Sagan, who was currently beginning New York City’s initial 24-hour TV news station. In September of 1992, Sagan extended to Dodley an anchor employment opportunity and Dodley has been an NY1 backbone from that point forward.
