Lisa Desjardins is a political journalist from the United States. She is a correspondent for PBS NewsHour, where she covers news from the United States Capitol as well as travels across the country to report on how Washington decisions affect people where they live and work. She has previously worked for CNN Radio and the Associated Press.

Desjardins earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, between 1990 and 1994. Her first job in journalism was at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina’s local television station WBTW between 1998 and 1999 when she was fired. She then worked as a freelance reporter for The Sun News, a Myrtle Beach newspaper, and for the news agency Reuters at the same time. After a few months, in October 1999, she left The Sun News to work as a political reporter for the Columbia NBC affiliate WIS, while continuing to work for Reuters. She covered the South Carolina Legislature, the debate over displaying the Confederate Flag in the South Carolina State House, and the Republican presidential primaries in 2000 for WIS. Desjardins joined the Washington, D.C. bureau as a reporter in 2003.
Desjardins went on to work for CNN for nine years, from 2005 to 2014. [8] She was CNN Radio’s Congressional correspondent, but she also contributed to CNN.com and CNN’s news channel on occasion. Desjardins covered the 2010 Haiti earthquake for CNN Radio, and his work was recognized with a Sigma Delta Chi Award. She was transferred to CNN’s Washington Bureau as a Capitol Hill reporter after CNN Radio was shut down in June 2013. She was a member of the team that covered the presidential primaries in 2008. CNN received a Peabody Award for the team’s coverage in 2008. During her time at CNN, she co-wrote a personal finance book with Rick Emerson called Zombie Economics: A Guide to Personal Finance.

Desjardins joined PBS NewsHour in October 2014 as a political reporter and was promoted to Political Director in July 2015, appearing on camera from the studio and the United States Capitol. She also contributes to the NewsHour website. Capitol Hill Correspondent is her current title on the NewsHour. On January 6, 2021, Desjardins was inside the United States Capitol, covering the counting and certification of the 2020 Presidential Electoral College votes, when the building was attacked by violent mobs. Despite being assaulted by a rioter, she continued to report live throughout the attack and was evacuated to the Longworth House Office Building with members of Congress and staffers.
