Melanie developed her passion for journalism when she was still young. Furthermore, she started her own newspaper at the age of 8 years. Though it was just a handwritten rag on notebook paper, complete with her own illustrations of neighborhood happenings.
Melanie Alnwick started her career in television as a news director’s secretary at WUSA-9 in Washington DC. While there, she learned many things concerning her profession and how TV stations work despite working on a minor role. She began her on-air job in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where she did weather and still acknowledges the way round an NWS forecast map.
She also worked at NBC-17 in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she learned how to shoot a gun, found out what a hog waste lagoon is and witness one of the last live tobacco auctions in the state. She also engineered a fantastic trip with the U.S. Air Force to Bosnia, Albania, Germany and Italy during the Kosovo conflict. She also had the privilege of flying in the cockpit of a C-17 across the Atlantic.
Alnwick likes giving back to the community by volunteering at local hospitals with Musicians on Call. She also teaches art history to elementary school students.
