After serving until 1987, reporting and presenting for Australia’s first satellite television channel, Sky Channel, Peter Overton relocated to Sydney and joined Channel Nine in 1991 as a sports reporter for National Nine News. During his tenure, he co-anchored the coverage of the Thredbo disaster and the major super league ARL court decisions with Tracy Grimshaw from the Sydney studios.
As an anchor for Nine’s major nightly news bulletin, Overton oversaw the contested 6 pm news service’s ascent to the top spot in Sydney in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. In recognition of his team’s outstanding coverage of the Queensland floods, Overton accepted the TV Week Logie Award for Most Outstanding News Coverage in 2012, which was shared across TODAY, ACA, and News. He received another Logie Award in 2014 for Most Outstanding News Coverage of the Blue Mountains bushfires.
