Prior to his involvement with the television show Project Runway, Rice worked for Pegah Anvarian and Tony Duquette. Santino appeared as a contestant on the second season of Bravo’s reality show Project Runway in 2005, with mixed results. He won two challenges and finished in the top three times more. Rice, on the other hand, received one of the lowest two scores for four challenges. He eventually made it through the season and was one of three finalists chosen to show at Olympus Fashion Week in New York City. He finished third, trailing Daniel Vosovic and Chloe Dao.

Rice rose to prominence on Project Runway for his charismatic and occasionally abrasive persona, and he was frequently referred to as the show’s “villain.” He was also known for his sense of humor, which included impersonations of mentor Tim Gunn. Rice also appeared in the 2010 independent queer cinema thriller L.A. Zombie as a homeless man.
