Steve rose to prominence as the creator of the award-winning feature film Everybody Has a Story. He got the idea from Lewiston [Idaho] Morning Tribune reporter David Johnson, and he first tried a few stories on Public Eye. Steve would throw a dart at a map of the United States and then travel to wherever it landed. When Steve arrived, he would open a phonebook and, picking a name at random, he would try to find someone who would agree to be interviewed and tell their “story.” From Hawaii to Alaska, from Buckhannon, West Virginia to Miami, Florida, he traveled across the country. Since its inception in 1998, the series has produced 123 stories.
