Troy Dendekker Bradley Nowell
Troy was formerly married to her late husband Bradley Nowell. Bradley was an American musician and the lead singer and guitarist of the ska punk band Sublime.
Bradley Nowell, born on February 22, 1968, was an American musician and the lead vocalist and guitarist of the influential ska punk band Sublime. Born and raised in Long Beach, California, Nowell developed a deep passion for music from an early age. He began playing guitar and writing songs as a teenager, and his eclectic musical tastes encompassed reggae, punk rock, hip-hop, and ska.
In 1988, Nowell formed Sublime with bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh. The band’s unique fusion of punk, reggae, and ska, coupled with Nowell’s soulful vocals and introspective songwriting, quickly gained them a dedicated following. Sublime independently released their debut album, “40oz. to Freedom,” in 1992, which showcased Nowell’s diverse songwriting abilities and laid the foundation for their future success.
However, Nowell’s life was plagued by personal struggles, most notably his battle with drug addiction. His substance abuse issues would tragically cut short his promising career. Despite his troubles, Nowell’s talent and creativity shone through in Sublime’s music. The band’s breakthrough album, the self-titled “Sublime,” was released in 1996, just months after Nowell’s untimely death at the age of 28.
