In February, Ivory, a veteran reporter for Chicago’s WGN-TV, received a diagnosis of advanced heart failure, followed by a heart attack. Furthermore, one of her kidneys is now functioning at just 10% of its capacity, and she is contending with multiple blood clots distributed throughout her body.

The origin of her health issues can be traced back to 2009 when, at the age of 35, she was abruptly awakened by severe chest pain. Medical examinations revealed irregularities, but emergency room physicians were unable to pinpoint the cause.

Subsequently, Ivory experienced nighttime episodes of alarm in 2012 and 2016, but she never pursued consultation with a cardiologist. Her rationale was rooted in the absence of high blood pressure or elevated cholesterol levels, coupled with her regular participation in endurance events. Balancing the demands of a family with four children and a hectic work and training regimen, she attributed her symptoms to the strains of a busy life
