Gordon Ramsay is a British chef, restaurateur, writer, and television personality. Since its founding in 1997, his restaurant chain, Gordon Restaurants, has received 17 Michelin stars in total; it currently has seven. Since 2001, his signature restaurant, Restaurant Gordon, in London’s Chelsea, has been awarded three Michelin stars. Ramsay became one of the most well-known and influential chefs in the UK after becoming famous in the 1999 British television miniseries Boiling Point.

Gordon is the son of Gordon James Sr., a shopkeeper, welder, and swimming pool manager, and Helen (née Cosgrove), a nurse. In addition to a younger brother and sister, he also has an older sister. He immigrated to England with his family when he was nine years old, settling in the Bishopton neighborhood of Stratford-upon-Avon.
He acknowledged that his father mistreated and abandoned the kids in his autobiography. His sister was a waitress at a neighborhood Indian restaurant, where he worked as a pot washer. He left the family home and moved into an apartment in Banbury when he was 16 years old.

In 1997, Ramsay established Gordon Restaurants, his first restaurant chain. Since he was hired as the head chef of Aubergine in 1993, he has owned and run a number of eateries. He had a 25% ownership stake in the eatery where he received his first two Michelin stars. Ramsay organized a staff walkout from both restaurants after protege Marcus Wareing was fired from sister restaurant L’Oranger. He then took the staff to open Restaurant Gordon on Royal Hospital Road in London. His restaurant of the same name eventually earned him his first and only three Michelin stars.

Gordon received a job offer from Marco Pierre White in 1993 to become the executive chef of La Tante Claire in Chelsea. 14 months after changing its name to Aubergine, the eatery received its first Michelin star. In 1998, he helped his father-in-law, Chris Hutcheson, open his own eatery, Restaurant Gordon. In 2001, it received its third Michelin star, making Ramsay the first Scot to do so. Beginning with Verre in Dubai in 2005, Gordon has opened a number of eateries outside the United Kingdom.
Gordon at Conrad Tokyo and Cerise by Gordon, two eateries, debuted in Tokyo in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Gordon at the London debuted in New York City in 2007.
