Ryan began working at Hooters, a restaurant chain, while she was still a university student. She also assisted in the training of other waitresses. She was fired after a short period of time on the job. She then tried her hand at open mic night performances, mostly for fun. It worked out so well for her that by the time she finished her studies, she had developed a basic comedy routine for herself. Ryan’s waitress training job with Hooters continued after she graduated, taking her to the United Kingdom, where they opened a branch in Nottingham. In January 2008, she relocated permanently to the United Kingdom. In 2012, she appeared on Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats while in England.
She also ventured into comedy professionally and on July 28, 2013, she was featured at the Just for Laughs 2013 Gala by Whitney Cummings was performed in front of a live audience.
