Maria Genero is a retired weather anchor at WGRZ TV in Buffalo, New York. She retired on December 21, 2023. Maria began her broadcasting journey in 1984 at WYRK radio station. Following a couple of years in radio, she transitioned to the CBS affiliate in Buffalo, assuming the role of a weekend weathercaster. During her tenure there, Maria enrolled in the University Of Mississippi Broadcast Meteorology program, completing her coursework and earning accreditation from the National Weather Association in 1989.
In the summer of 1989, Maria relocated to Miami, Florida, joining the CBS-owned and operated station WCIX as the evening 6 and 11 p.m. meteorologist. While at WCIX, she gained recognition as the chief weather fill-in for Mark McEwen on CBS This Morning. One notable moment during her network stint was sharing the screen with President Nixon, who was in NYC to promote his new book, during the national weather segment. In 1996, Maria accepted a position with KABC in Los Angeles, serving as the weekend meteorologist and host of the California lifestyle show, Eye on L.A.
By 1998, Fox News in New York City had enlisted Maria as the host of “Good Day New York,” a morning news show airing from 7 to 9 a.m. After several years in the bustling city, Maria returned home in 2001.
